Michaela, from Bratislava in Slovakia, graduated in 2011 with an MA in Politics.
I chose to study at Dundee University because it has a great politics department and it runs modules that interested me the most. It will also help me to achieve my career goals, which are to to work in the civil service, and later on for the UN or EU.
I loved exploring new topics as part of my course. I enjoyed the lectures where I learnt the most fascinating things which would make me want to study the whole topic. My favourite part of the course was writing my dissertation. It was my best experience because I learned so much, and did all of it on my own.
Settling into life here wasn't always easy but I took it one step at a time. Living in the halls during first year is the best support the university can offer - you don't need to worry about renting privately and all sorts of paperwork associated with it.
As I started speaking to more Scottish people, all sorts of aspects of life here became clearer - from shopping, eating habits, to driving, renting, buying a car etc. So you can build a whole new life and experience here!
My advice to international students would be not to seclude yourself from other cultures and especially not the local one - just dive in and enjoy!
