Margarita, from Kazakhstan, graduated with an LLM in International Commercial Law in 2009
My name is Margarita Khegay. I am from Almaty, Kazakhstan. In 2007 I graduated from Kazakh National University named after Al-Farabi with Diploma of Bachelor Degree in International Law (Diploma with Honors).
Commercial issues have always been of paramount importance to any society, striving for economic prosperity. For a transition government, like Kazakhstan, to cope adequately with these, a good number of specialists with international experience in this field will be inevitable; therefore the thought of going to study International Commercial Law at Dundee University gave me feeling of wild excitement.
My time at Dundee was one of the most interesting and fruitful experiences in my life! In particular my time spent in Dundee helped me a lot to improve my English and to get acquainted with the Scottish people and their culture. Studying at Dundee University helped me develop my legal writing, speaking, and analytical skills and as a result to become a real specialist in the legal field.
My long-term research has revealed one interesting fact: there are not enough specialists in our country who are trained with international skills and experiences on these issues. Moreover, International Commercial Law is a relatively new branch in Kazakhstan. In my opinion, system of education in Great Britain is one of the best systems in the world. The study of Law at Dundee has a long and distinguished history. It is true to say that the University of Dundee has developed a global reputation in the field of Law and it is very popular in Kazakhstan.
At present I do work at Deloitte TCF, LLP as a legal consultant in Tax and Legal Department. Our Department deals with Clients from various professional fields: construction, telecommunications, energy resources and others. Personally in future I am planning to specialize in commercial sphere, particularly, in International Commercial Law. I hope to be able to draw on my good experience and skills from the School of Law of Dundee University and make my own contribution on the commercial issues in my country, on the development of International Commercial Law in Kazakhstan.
