Luis Rodriguez Alarcon, from Bogota, Colombia, graduated in 2004 with an LLM in Mineral Law and Policy.
I wanted to study at Dundee University because it offered a programme called LLM in Mineral Law and Policy. I was interested in this due to recent policies and institutional reforms in the Colombian Mining Industry.
After graduation I initially worked as an independent consultant advising private and public mining companies in technical and mining policy issues. I have also been working as a professor at the Externado University as a professor of "History of Mining Geopolitics". I am currently associated with PricewaterhouseCoopers as a Leader Consultant working for the Sustainable Mining Operations Project.
My experience of studying at Dundee University allowed me to have a global view of the mining industry: trends, history and projections in a sustainable development, dynamic and globalized scenario.
I particularly welcomed the opportunity to discuss issues with colleagues from different countries, and understand their views with regard to mining policy issues.
I enjoyed getting to know the culture of Scotland, especially the music. It was also great to be able to visit other countries in Europe and Asia.
