Liwei Liu from China, studied for an MDes 2009-10

Liwei Liu grew up in China. She is interested in activity related to the arts, like drawing, playing the piano and photography. Before she came to Britain, she completed her 9 years compulsory education and when she was 18, she had the opportunity to study at the Nanjing Forestry University of China, choosing to study Landscape Design.

During the four years at the Nanjing Forestry University, she learned the basic knowledge and skills of Landscape Design and developed a keen interest in this major. She graduated in June, 2008, receiving a Bachelor's degree. Between June 2008 and September 2009, she studied a Master Course in at the Nanjing Forestry University. Later, in September, 2009, she arrived at the University of Dundee to commence a Master of Design course, being attracted by the University of Dundee's good reputation in research, as well as its recognised appeal in offering an enjoyable and fulfilling social life for international students. For her Master's project, she is exploring in "how to promote public wellbeing and strengthen an awareness of using more of Green Spaces through Nature Experience Design, by introducing Tai chi in Green Spaces". She organised Tai chi sessions in Dundee's Open Green Spaces. To further her research, she not only joined a local Tai chi Class to test and promote the experience of practicing Tai chi in natural green spaces with stakeholders, but also engaged with the local press and city council, to develop this project.

She also explored creating a portable space for people to carry out an outdoor activity. She really appreciates and cherishes the opportunity to have a whole year's experience at the University of Dundee, in which to develop and deepen her skills, both in communicating with stakeholders and managing her project in an effective and efficient way.
