Lisa

Lisa graduates with a BSc in Sports Biomedicine in 2011.

Why did you choose to study at Dundee University?

After looking through numerous prospectuses I found the information on my degree combined my interests from school...science and sport. The University itself had a great reputation and I attended two of the open days with my family. We were all really impressed with how passionate the lecturers and other staff were when talking about their subject. Also I liked how well organised the mydundee website looked and how easy it was to explore.

What are your immediate plans after graduation?

I'm extremely lucky to have been offered a place on a programme where I train on placement alongside studying for another degree. This starts in September so the summer can be spent looking forward to graduation and preparing for my new job.

What are your longer term career plans (if any)?

Once I am fully trained I intend to find a full time job where I can continue my professional career development.

What information do you think applicants need to know before starting this course?

Read through ALL the information given about the course and look into the areas of employment that are a possibility after graduating. If none of the options look good to you then perhaps think about a different course. Most definitely try to speak to a few people who are already on or have done the course.

What was the most enjoyable thing about your degree and why?

As there is no 'set' job at the end of this degree it covers a lot of areas which made it really interesting and can open a lot of doors. With such variety it is not a boring course but you need to work hard to 'bridge together' things you're learning from different modules.

What was your best university experience and why?

Dundee has such a great social scene that there's always something to do or somewhere to be. You make great friends and plenty of them.

What sports activities or clubs/societies (if any) were you involved with?

The 'play before you pay' day is a great way of trying out different sports to see if you're interested in them. I was a member of the golf club for 4 years.

Do you have any advice for potential new students?

Definitely chose Dundee! It's a great university with unbeatable nightlife, sociable people and dedicated staff. The city has something for everyone to do and family can come visit and stay close by. Nearly everything you could want is in walking distance and there's plenty of buses or taxi ranks for those further afield.
