Judith Kahl

Judith Kahl graduated in 2011 in European Studies with French.

Even though I am in my last year of studies already, I always find it hard to explain what "European Studies" really is. All I can say is that European Studies in Dundee is what you make it and what you want it to be. It is in fact an interdisciplinary subject which allows you to study and discuss the current political and cultural issues in the European Union as well as taking modules from other related subjects you might be interested in such as history, politics, geography, philosophy or English.

I personally found that I am benefiting immensely from my history and philosophy module as they complement my European Studies work "set the scene" by establishing an historic background.

The option of doing taking European Studies with a language is a great opportunity to get a better understanding of some of the other European nations you are studying; in my eyes, there is no better way of exploring another culture than by learning their language. Because I find the cultural aspect of European studies really interesting I decided to go to Grenoble in France on an ERASMUS exchange in 3rd year. Even though I will admit that it was one of the hardest things I have ever done I am so glad I went and I have taken away so many insights and good memories, it was more than worth it.

I can only recommend the European Studies course in Dundee, as the course itself is interesting and in high demand, furthermore the staff in Dundee is amazingly helpful, friendly and flexible when it comes to helping you build your timetable. This course since allows you to build your own individualized timetable according to your own personal preferences which is probably as close as you can get to a guarantee of signing up for an enjoyable and fulfilling degree.
