Heather MacNeill, from Belfast, studied Electronic and Electrical Engineering, and graduated with a BSc in 2010.
My older sister also attended Dundee University and had really positive reviews of the city and people. Combined with the good reputation of the engineering department, it made Dundee an obvious choice.
The wide range of topics we covered made it easy to stay interested in the course.
This course is hard work and will require some serious studying, that being said I enjoyed every minute of it and it's enabled me to get a good job doing something I really enjoy.
My final year thesis probably provided me with the best learning experience. I was part of a biomedical laser research team working with tunable External Cavity Diode Lasers. As you can imagine, it required a lot of background reading, but in return I learned a lot about lasers, gained practical experience in a lab and worked with some of the best minds around.
The friends I made whilst at University I will probably keep for the rest of my life. I met some truly remarkable people at Dundee and I will always remember my time there with fondness.
I was treasurer of the University Engineering Society, which was also open to physicists and renewable energy students. We were mostly a social club although we did organise several guest lectures in areas which would be of interest to us.
