Why did you choose to study at Dundee University?

Choosing Dundee University for my Masters degree was an important decision in my life. I was planning to study abroad since I finished my Bachelors degree. Dundee came to my mind for the first time through a colleague who I used to work with in Bangladesh. He advised me to come here for my post graduate study. Later I applied here for the University's excellent reputation, not only in UK but also in the world.

What has been your best learning experience to date and why?

My time here at Dundee and at the University is definitely the best part of my life. The teachers here are very helpful and keen to share knowledge with the students. A totally diversified environment in the class has given me the best memories of my life so far. The different cultural programmes, study tours and sports competition at the University can make anyone feel like they are at home in Dundee. I had to study hard and remained busy with my study most of the time; but you can always find time for your entertainment here at Dundee University and that's what makes it different from other universities.

Do you have a part-time job here?

As I came here from a middle class family, it was really important for me to cover my living expense by myself. It took me nearly two months to get a good part time job here. I think one can find a job here if they really want to earn their pocket money by themselves. It is difficult to find a job in Dundee but there are small towns nearby where one can easily travel and look for job. I am currently working at The Old Course Hotel in St. Andrews (a town near Dundee) as a hospitality team member. I will try to find some graduate jobs from now on as I am at the edge of finishing my degree.

How is Dundee different from Bangladesh?

The difference between Dundee and Bangladesh is immense. It is really incomparable. Everything here is different, mostly the culture and weather. One thing I can mention here is the Jute industry for which Dundee used to be very famous ages ago. That industry was moved to Bangladesh from Dundee. Still now, Narayangonj, a place in Bangladesh is called the Dundee of the Eastern world. So there is some old relationship between Dundee and Bangladesh.

What was your experience of settling into life in Dundee when you first arrived?

My first visit to Dundee wasn't so pleasurable because of the severe weather conditions last December. However, it didn't take long to adjust to the weather. One thing I can say is that due to the charming nature of this city you always feel at home. It is so small and yet so vibrant and multicultural a student city. You just can't feel bad in Dundee unless you are careless about your study!

Do you have any advice for potential new students?

My advice for potential students from Bangladesh and all over the world is to focus on your study. Try to involve yourself in social and voluntary activities to broaden your outlook and make your time here more enjoyable.
