Elija is a Commonwealth Scholarship Funded student who is taking the Master of Palliative Care degree by Distance Learning.

"I am a christian medical worker currently based in a rural mission hospital in Rift valley province in Kenya for the past ten years. I have been the doctor in charge of AIC Litein hospital for the past four years and a member of the hospital palliative care committee that is on its second year since inception.

I chose to study with the Distance Learning Centre (Palliative Care) in order to learn from other centres and regions the practice of palliative care to enable me provide the needed direction in my hospital and our catchment area in this speciality of patient and their relatives care.

I look forward to the day when my hospital and others in my region shall be able to offer standard palliative care in poor resource setting where clients struggle with enormous socio economic challenges. I also wish to utilise information acquired as a trainer to other medical workers on benefits of palliative care especially in training schools."
