Derek Colley

Derek Colley studied for a part time MA and graduated in 2011.

I missed the chance to go to university when I was young, but seeing what my sons have both achieved at university, my ambition returned, and I wanted to do the same. However, working full time, I thought the opportunity to study had passed me by.

When I first heard about the part-time degree and the opportunity to study in the evenings, I jumped at the chance to widen my horizons and to test myself by studying topics I have not looked at before.

So far the course has been every thing I had hoped; each module has been challenging, fun and rewarding, my self-confidence has grown through the encouragement offered, and I have enjoyed the interaction and support from fellow students and the university lecturers.

It just proves you are never too old to learn, but I wish I had started years ago.
