Christina is studying for a BDes in Jewellery and Metal Design and hopes to graduate in 2013.

I have always wanted to study Art, and Dundee has one of the best art schools in the UK. It also has the best Students' Union in Scotland. In addition to that, my family are originally from Dundee, so it was appealing to study in a familiar place.
The best thing about Jewellery design at DJCAD is probably the opportunity you have to learn not only physical skills but also how to think like a designer. There is a great balance of making and designing, and the course teaches you how to succeed as a designer.
You may find that on completion of your general foundation first year, that you want to specialise in something completely different from what you originally came to art school to study. For me, I wanted to be a painter, but I ended up studying jewellery as it had more to offer in regards to physical skill. Sometimes the course is not what you expected, but often this is a good thing.
I was in West Park Flats for my first year. I lived the fresher's lifestyle and made a lot of new friends. It was great. My only regret is not joining the fantastic University gym, and not joining any societies until my third year!
I play cello in the University Orchestra and I participate in the LIP Theatre Society as their set designer. I am also the President and Founder of Dundee University's newest society - Alpha Iota Sorority/Fraternity. It is a social club inspired by the american tradition of 'Greek Life' within universities. Our main focus is raising money for charities such as Breast Cancer, Testicular Cancer and Children in Need.
My best experience at Dundee University has to be the Alpha Iota Rush. It was the first night that the society was properly established and not only did I aquire 80 society members, but I also made several great friends.
Join as many societies as possible! There is a society to suit every single person at Dundee University, and it is how you will make friends.
