Ashley Bell

Ashley Bell is a mature student from Dundee graduated in 2011 with a BEd in Primary Education.

I chose to study at the University of Dundee because I live locally and since I have two young children, travelling was not a viable option. I am well aware however of the high standing of the University in the realms of Initial Teacher Education.

During my course, I've been impressed with the broad range of knowledge and skills that are taught, the balance between theory and practical work and the invaluable support given throughout.

Throughout the last three years the school placements I have been on have provided me with the opportunity to apply my learning in a real life context, to learn from experienced practioners in the field and to receive detailed feedback from both University and school staff.

If I were to pick one thing that has stood out for me during my time at university, I think it would have to be the experience of making so many new friends. I am extremely proud of the way we are all there to help each other and this has played a major part in making my university experience a successful and happy one.

If you are considering studying Primary Education, you'll find that in both the course and in the profession you are considering the same rule applies - the more you are willing to put into it, the more you will get out of it! In choosing this course, you have the chance to make a difference to children's lives and help shape their futures - an opportunity not to be wasted. You cannot enter this course half heartedly - be prepared to work hard. However, it is very rewarding and definitely worth it!
