Arman Tahaboor from Bangladesh, is currently studying the MSc International Business and Marketing.
I was looking for a university in the UK that offered a January/February intake into master's programmes in the fields of international business and/or marketing. I researched a lot, and found quite a few universities that matched my interests. Among them, I found out that Dundee's ranking was quite good - it was ranked among the top 50 universities in the UK and among the top 150 in the world! As I researched further about the university, I found out that it was a very good university with a very nice campus, good facilities and the best students' union in the UK!
My experience here in Dundee has been great so far. Since Day 01, when I moved into Belmont Flat 18 (university residences), I met my wonderful flatmates who have become some of my greatest friends in life - I was sharing the flat with postgraduate students from Nigeria, Turkey and Zimbabwe. Once the courses started, I found myself being taught by lecturers from Australia, Italy, Poland and India, working on multiple assignments with groupmates from Egypt, Taiwan, China and more, and going to lectures with students from countless nationalities. It has been a total international exposure to my academic and social life.
The best thing about being in Dundee is that it is a small but compact city - it is quiet and peaceful, and almost everything is within walking distance. Thus, there's almost no traveling costs unlike in other large metropolitan cities. When my friends visited me from London, they were surprised to find out that my rent and other costs were so low here, although the living standard was almost as good as in London.
I basically work part-time for an agency who give me flexible shifts in different events. I often work at the Old Course Hotel in St Andrews (a small town near Dundee). I have also worked at The Open 2012 (golf tournament) in Lytham St. Annes near Blackpool in Lancashire, England. And very recently, I worked at the London 2012 (Olympic and Paralympic Games) at the Olympic Stadium in Stratford, London. In this way, I have been able to travel extensively across the UK, make lots of friends from different cultures and earn some money as well.
Decide on your priorities, generate your options, evaluate them and make a decision. If you are considering Dundee, I would say it's great! Whatever time you spend here, you will cherish it throughout your life.
