Why did you choose to study at Dundee?

Dundee University is a UK leading Medical School. Receiving good Medical undergraduate education was always one of my biggest dreams and I am so glad I have the opportunity to fulfill this dream here at Dundee University.

I found out about the University from Prospects and also from the University website, which clearly underline the curriculum and the methods of teaching at Dundee. Also teachers at my school advised me to apply to Dundee and I heard very positive and enthusiastic feedback from older students, while I was still at school. I came for a day visit to Dundee (not at the open days) and I liked that the University campus is very close to the city center and you have everything that you need for a comfortable and enjoyable student life.

What is the best thing about your course and why?

The curriculum at the Dundee Medical school is very well organised. The best thing about the course is that the practical experience is very well taught together with the scientific part of the course. I think that it is very important for students to have the opportunity to get practical experience from the beginning of their studies as this makes it easier to put in practice the acquired knowledge and to learn the required skills.

The Medical School is part of the Ninewells Hospital and it is a wonderful opportunity for us students to be able to go on wards, ask for advice from doctors, see patients from the very beginning of our studies. The curriculum at Dundee Medical School suits my learning style perfectly and I am so glad I am a Medical student at the University of Dundee!

What information do you think applicants need to know before starting this course?

Studying Medicine requires a lot of hard-work and commitment. The application process is long and challenging as well, which gives an idea what studying Medicine means. Students have to be ready and willing to work hard every day, to be very organised in order to manage their time well, but also not to forget to enjoy their student life!

What was your experience of settling into life in Dundee when you first arrived?

I had been to Dundee before and I knew the city, which really helped. Also the fact that the student accommodation, the University campus, the library and all the other facilities you need are very close helps a lot especially when you just arrived and you are about to start your student life. I found the information they gave us during the Fresher's week helpful. I met nice people here at University and made good friends, which always makes settling in easier especially when you are far away from home.

What sports activities or clubs/societies (if any) are you involved with?

University of Dundee has a range of societies and extra-curricular organisations, which gives students the opportunity to develop new hobbies, interests or continue the activities, which students did when they were at school and achieve successes. This is a great opportunity to meet new people and also develop new skills, outwith the course you are studying. The University has an International Society, which welcomes students from all over the world, introduces international students to Scotland and the Scottish culture and also gives them the opportunity to tell others about the country they come from.

I am part of the Dundee University Enterprise Gym Society, which teaches students about business and how to develop entrepreneurial skills. Being part of this society gives me the opportunity to meet new people, to develop my knowledge and understanding about how a business works and also develop my communication, team-working skills.

The University of Dundee has a well-equipped gym and a lot of sport clubs. I go to the gym and to the swimming pool very often, I play badminton and also attend the exercise classes. It is great having all these facilities!

What has been your best university experience to date and why?

I enjoy my course a lot, being able to see patients on wards, speak to them is a wonderful experience for me and makes me look forward to my future career with even more enthusiasm.

Do you have any advice for potential new students?

Advice:

I sometimes wish the day had 36/48 hours so that I could try/do everything!
