Access and Participation

Wider Access Outreach Officer

The Access Outreach Officer strives to raise aspirations throughout Secondary Education while developing links between Higher Education and schools.

Access Outreach Officer achievements include improved awareness of Higher Education as a realistic and beneficial goal, developed information exchange between schools and university, increased awareness of DUAL Summer School and improved uptake of Discovering Degrees.

Outreach activities

These achievements were attained through Outreach with forty-nine high schools across Angus, Dundee, Fife, Perth and Kinross. Outreach involves interactive workshops for pupils, talks for parents / teachers and attendance at school conventions. Undergraduate Student Volunteers are integral to Outreach, acting as role models and dispelling stereotypes surrounding student life.

University-based Access activities are part of the Access Outreach Officer's work, including teaching on campus visits, Discovering Degrees and the DUAL Summer School
.

Having taught at both Secondary and Higher Education levels, the Access Outreach Officer has many future objectives including increased volume of school visits, development of systematic workshop programmes, continued inter-agency collaboration, research informed practice, evaluation and review.
