Studies at Dundee helped me to become independent and think critically; I was exposed to making decisions independently and to constantly think of what I as an individual want to reach, which helped me to become very determined and motivated in everything I do.

English Support Programme

We understand that moving overseas and living and studying in a country where a different language is spoken can be daunting. That's why we offer our English support programme, to help you to increase your confidence, skills and knowledge of English.

Classes are free and there is no formal assessment. Instead, our supportive tutors offer feedback on your progress throughout. Joining the programme is a great way to improve your English and to make new friends at the same time.

"I enjoyed living with people from Scotland, and a few other countries. It gives you a different out look on things. The diversity at the University is high and it is nice to get to know a lot of other people. The Students Union is also fun and a great way to meet new people. The area around the campus seems very safe and enjoyable."
International Student Barometer, 2009

Life in Dundee

"Dundee University is perfect for a fantastic student experience as the city is relatively small, and all facilities are available on campus, it made me feel a real 'sense of belonging'."
Edgars Damlics, Civil Engineering student

Student Societies

We have a thriving International Student Society which has members from over 100 countries world-wide. They organise trips and tours, arrange social events, and work in conjunction with our international support service to make sure your time at Dundee runs smoothly.

One of their most popular events is the Welcome Party, which gives you a taste of Scotland (with food such as haggis, neeps and tatties) and introduces you to some traditional Scottish entertainment, including Burns poetry, bagpipes and Scottish country dancing to the live ceilidh band.
Take a look at some photos from the 2011 welcome party.

The University's new Diplomats@Dundee society is also proving propular with our European students.

Studying and living abroad will also help you to stand out from other candidates in an increasingly crowded job market. You'll gain first-hand international experience, improve your language skills and be able to draw upon your time in the UK to demonstrate skills in adaptability, self-confidence and problem solving - all of which employers value.

The more independent approach to learning that you'll find here will also help you to develop critical thinking, self-discipline and the analytical skills that are sought after by employers.

I was accepted to do an internship in Brussels, at the Permanent Representation of Latvia to the European Union, for a whole summer between my third and fourth year of studies, and have now been chosen to go to Mauritius to do a project there with four other students from Maastricht Graduate School of Governance, in cooperation with the Mauritian government.
