Studying for a degree in Scotland

The Scottish education system is different from the Indonesian system and it is important that you understand some of those differences before you make your decision to come and study here at Dundee.

Level 1: Students with Diploma 2 will be considered for Level 1 entry onto most of our degree courses. Alternatively, a relevant foundation programme or a year at University after completing the Standard Kompetensi Nasional (SKN), STTB - SMA, and Diploma 1 can be accepted as well.

Students with international school leaving qualifications can find detailed entry requirements on the individual course page.

Level 2: Direct entry to 2nd year is often possible for certain courses, based on Diploma (2 and 3), A-Level or IB grades. Or if the student meets the Level 1 requirements and has undertaken further studies

For graduate students

Applicants who hold the Sarjana (S1) course accredited with A or B may be considered for taught postgraduate courses. You must submit your degree transcripts.

English Support Programme

We understand that moving overseas and living and studying in a country where a different language is spoken can be daunting. That's why we offer our English support programme, to help you to increase your confidence, skills and knowledge of English.

Classes are free and there is no formal assessment. Instead, our supportive tutors offer feedback on your progress throughout. Joining the programme is a great way to improve your English and to make new friends at the same time.

Scottish life and culture

While at Dundee you can immerse yourself in Scottish culture (there's more to it than just tartan and shortbread!) and explore the scenic beauty of Scotland. Mountains, lochs and glens are all within easy reach, and the rest of the UK is also highly accessible, even without a car. If that's not enough, you'll only be a short flight away from mainland Europe too.

"Being a student in Dundee has left me with many pleasant and remarkable experiences. Dundee, the fourth largest city in Scotland, is actually fairly small compared to Medan, let alone Jakarta. However, the environment of the city which is very neat, orderly, and has many green areas coupled with its location which is near the mouth of River Tay, make this city a comfortable and ideal place for students."
Ali Nasir, graduate of the Centre for Energy, Petroleum and Mineral Law & Policy

Student Societies

We have a thriving International Student Society which has members from over 100 countries world-wide. They organise trips and tours, arrange social events, and work in conjunction with our international support service to make sure your time at Dundee runs smoothly.

You'll easily find friends to celebrate Scottish holidays and events with - such as Hogmanay (New Year), Burns Night, and St Andrew's Day.

Our International Support Office also organises events for the international community.

"I enjoyed living with people from Scotland, and a few other countries. It gives you a different out look on things. The diversity at the University is high and it is nice to get to know a lot of other people. The Students Union is also fun and a great way to meet new people. The area around the campus seems very safe and enjoyable."
International Student Barometer, 2009

Life in Dundee for Islamic Students

Dundee is a multicultural city and has a significant Muslim population. You'll be able to find plenty of halal restaurants, as well as halal grocers.

The University has a Islamic prayer rooms (both on the City campus and the Ninewells campus), and the Central Dundee Mosque is only a 10 minute walk from the City campus.

We also have a thriving Islamic Society, in addition to the Muslim Message Society. You'll find plenty of people across the campus, staff as well as students, who will be observing Ramadan and celebrating Eid.

"Dundee has a large number of international students and a range of facilities which cater to their needs (halal shops, asian supermarket, religious facilities etc.) which made it easier to settle in."
