Art and Design

Why study Art and Design at Dundee?

Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art and Design (DJCAD), is a visually based part of the University seeking to give access to contemporary artists and designers. We are visual thinkers exploring creative ideas through the practice of fine art, design, television & imaging and media arts. We have a tradition that spans generations of practitioners, but we are committed to investing and developing all that is relevant to today's new artists.

We are one of the few art institutions in the UK that is part of a University, renowned for world class pioneering research in Medicine, Life Sciences, Applied Computing and the Creative Disciplines. Research underpins all the visual disciplines and leads teaching and learning.

Our new Graduate Centre is designed around this research ethos and brings together all taught postgraduate programmes in a creative and flexible environment. This encourages interaction between disciplines and enriches the student experience. DJCAD offers students the opportunity to take modules in 4 subject areas:

All Schools welcome applications from those on Study Abroad programmes. In most cases the student will follow an individual programme of study devised in consultation with staff, based upon their previous experience and aptitude. Prospective students may be asked to provide a portfolio of work to enable staff to identify their suitability for a particular programme and level of entry.

General Foundation

In addition to the subject areas listed above, DJCAD offers a General Foundation programme which is the first year of study for the undergraduate degree programme in Design, Fine Art and Media Arts & Imaging. There are a range of introductory modules including drawing, history and theory, and studio modules that may also be of interest to study abroad students.
