Science without Borders

Science without Borders is a Brazilian Government scholarship programme to send 100,000 Brazilian students on undergraduate sandwich courses, PhD sandwich courses and full PhDs to study science, technology, engineering, medicine and the creative industries at the world's best universities. From September 2012, the UK will welcome up to 10,000 Brazilian students over the next four years.

The University of Dundee actively supports Science without Borders and already hosts Brazilian students under the programme – we look forward to welcoming many more in the coming years. Why not choose the UK’s happiest student community (Times Higher Education Student Experience Survey 2012) and join us?

Think Dundee

We're an established university with a progressive and dynamic outlook. Our international reputation attracts top-class students and academics from across the world, with well over 100 countries represented in the University community.

With high-quality teaching, world-leading research and a £200 million investment in a compact, friendly campus with an unrivalled position in the heart of the city centre - it's no wonder our students voted us number one in the UK in this year's Times Higher Education Student Experience Survey.

In this survey, the University of Dundee scored highly for:

  • Good central / convenient facilities (ranked 1st in the UK)
  • Good accommodation (joint 2nd in the UK)
  • Good students' union (3rd in the UK)
  • High quality facilities (joint 3rd in the UK)
  • Best social activities (joint 3rd in the UK)
  • High quality staff lectures (4th in the UK)

Our students also enjoy the benefits of studying at a university ranked in the World's Top 200 Universities by the Times Higher Education World University Rankings 2011/12 and the QS World University Rankings 2011/12.

Compared to other Scottish cities, Dundee boasts more sunshine, lower rainfall and a warmer climate due to its sheltered location on the coast. The majority of students live on or near the campus and benefit from easy access to Scotland's beautiful countryside.

Our compact city campus is a mix of very modern and very traditional buildings, all equipped with the latest technology. It is easy to get around with teaching and social areas all within a short walk of each other. This helps to create the University's strong sense of community and a relaxed, friendly atmosphere in which to study.

Take a look at our virtual tour and see what our welcoming city centre campus has to offer.

Dundee's dedicated Careers Service offers support in areas such as career guidance, job-seeking strategies, applications and interviews. The Service is made up of trained, dedicated and professional members of staff and can provide help and guidance throughout the progress of your studies and also when finding a job. The Service also provides help with internships, work experience and temporary employment.

Accommodation

In order to make your stay in Dundee even more comfortable, the University has recently invested £39 million in new, modern student accommodation. Dundee itself has the lowest living costs of any Scottish city and the 2008 Endsleigh Insurance Homes Report, Dundee ranked 2nd in the UK for home safety.

Our 900 single rooms on campus and over 400 across the road provide the perfect environment for students, just 5 minutes from the city centre and 2 minutes from lecture halls. The complexes comprise approximately 50 self-contained flats for between five and ten residents. Bedrooms are all single occupancy and are sized approximately 13 or 15 sq.m. (including the private bathroom).

PhD programme

The University of Dundee's research output continues to go from strength to strength both in terms of income generated and in peer review recognition.

Much of our research is related to improving the quality of life in all its facets, from the obvious (medical research) to the less obvious (environmentally-friendly concrete or using legal models to resolve transnational disputes over water supplies).

All of this means a huge choice for potential research students with supervision from experts in their fields. Take a look at the research interest webpage where you can view departments and research groups.
