Don't pack everything you own! You will have to carry your luggage on your own and excess baggage charges are high. Remember that you can always buy what you need in Dundee.
You may want to pack something to decorate your room here to help you feel at home, for example, some photographs of family and friends, posters from your country.
Consider insuring your luggage before leaving home. Insurance for your personal possessions during your residence in Scotland is best arranged on arrival.
In the UK there are four seasons, spring, summer, autumn and winter. Although the seasons each bring their own particular weather, temperature changes are not particularly arduous and most students from hotter climates acclimatise quite quickly. Dundee's position close to the sea means that winters are rarely extreme. The air is clear and unpolluted.
Dundee benefits from a daily average of over 6 hours of sunshine in the peak of summer which is roughly the same average as London. Daylight hours in Scotland in the summer are far longer than in the South of England. By mid-June it stays light until nearly 11pm.
On the east coast of Scotland, Dundee tends to avoid the most extreme winter temperatures. Snow and ice are not unusual between December and February. It is on average a couple of degrees cooler than London. You may find Dundee colder than your own country, especially when you have just arrived.
Extra warm clothing will help you to adjust to the change in temperature. If you are coming from a hot country it is not necessary to buy warm clothes, except for travel, until you arrive here. You will be warmer wearing several thin layers of clothing than one thick jumper.
If you are staying in University accommodation, please visit the Residences web page for your particular residence, where there is a "what you will need to bring with you" section.
Power supply in the UK is 230 volts, 50 Hz. Bring an international travel plug, or buy one on arrival to adapt your plug to the UK socket.
