Tuition Fees

Tuition fees vary depending on your fee category and your course.

Your fee category, in most cases, depends on your current country of residence. We will use the information you provide on your application form to determine your fee category, and therefore your fees, if we make you an offer of a place. More information about fee categories can be found below.

Course fees can be found on the relevant undergraduate and postgraduate course webpages.

Fee Category

The four fee categories are Scottish, Rest of UK, EU and Overseas.

Scottish students

"My home is in Scotland and I am studying in Scotland."

If the above statement applies to you then you will probably be classified as a Scottish student.

Undergraduate students will pay the Scottish student tuition fee rates as detailed on each specific course page under Fees and Funding.

Postgraduate students will pay the Home/EU fee as detailed on each specific course page under Fees and Funding.

Undergraduate Students

Who will pay my tuition fees?
Scottish-domiciled students studying full-time courses can apply to the Student Awards Agency for Scotland (SAAS) for their tuition fees to be paid on their behalf providing they meet their residence conditions.

Although you will not have to contribute to your tuition fees, you must remember TO APPLY TO SAAS EVERY YEAR for payment of your fees.

Living costs
You can also apply to SAAS for other financial support including loans and bursaries to go towards your living costs, additional loans and grants to support students who have special circumstances such as a disability or health problem.

In the video below, SAAS outlines the funding available to Scottish domiciled undergraduate students studying a course of higher education in academic session 2013-2014.

RUK (Students from the rest of the UK including England, Northern Ireland, Wales, Jersey, Guernsey &Isle of Man)

"My home is in England, Northern Ireland, Wales, Jersey, Guernsey or the Isle of Man and I am studying in Scotland."

Rest of UK (RUK) usually refers to students from England, Wales, Northern Ireland, Jersey, Guernsey and the Isle of Man whose normal home address is in England, Wales, Northern Ireland, Jersey, Guernsey or the Isle of Man.

NI continuing students with ROI passports
We received the following guidance from SAAS on 7th June 2012: A continuing student is required to demonstrate that he/she was a national of the Republic of Ireland on the "relevant date". The "relevant date" is the 1st August in the year the student commenced study e.g. a student starting in September 2011 would need to demonstrate he/she was an Irish national on the 1st August 2011.

Undergraduate students will pay the RUK student tuition fee rates as detailed on each specific course page under Fees and Funding. It is also assumed that RUK students are UK citizens who have been resident in the UK for at least three years preceding commencement of their programme of study. A fuller definition will be provided by the Scottish Government following the passing of legislation which is currently under consideration.

Postgraduate students will pay the Home/EU fee as detailed on each specific course page under Fees and Funding.
