Professional Development in Leadership and Management

Overview

This course has been designed for professionals across a wide range of professions and occupations predominantly in the public, voluntary and third sectors, to allow them to develop more effective leadership and management practice within their own role and organisation.

The programme has flexible entry and exit points allowing you to enter at a level appropriate to your level of education and experience. You are encouraged to seek credit for prior formal learning and for experience. The programme has 3 levels which are matched to the Scottish Credit and Qualifications framework level 7, 8 and 9.

Aims of the Programme

The aims of the programme are:

• to develop personal skills and leadership qualities to enhance managerial effectiveness
• to develop further the underpinning knowledge, attitudes and transformational leadership skills required to lead and manage within the participant's respective area of practice
• to promote a wider understanding of managing change within organisations
• to enhance further career development opportunities and promote lifelong learning
• to facilitate progression with higher education to degree level.

Teaching and Learning

This programme is essentially delivered by online distance learning, allowing participants to continue in employment and study in their own locality. At times there may be the opportunity of workshops, if numbers are viable.

Entry Requirements

Participants usually have a professional qualification or experience of working in a profession for a number of years.

The qualification level depends on the level the participant wishes to gain entry:

• 3 Highers or equivalent (eg access to HE) allows entry to SCQF Level 7 (certificate level),
• for entry to Level 8 (diploma level), you need the equivalent of 120 credits,
• for entry to Level 9 (degree level), you need the equivalent of 240 credits.

Considerable opportunities are also available for the accreditation of prior and experiential learning.
