Increasingly, healthcare staff are being required to continue their education in order to keep their practice up to date and to gain recognised qualifications.
Gaining such qualifications normally requires the demonstration of practical skills and competence and knowledge of the theory underpinning the practice. Preparing for the theory element of an examination such as the BOA/RCN(SON) Certificate in Plaster Techniques, is not always easy. It can be costly both in course fees and in time lost from work.
The distance learning programme in Plaster Technology allows you, at reasonable cost, to learn in your own time and at your own pace without taking time off work.
The programme consists of four distance learning modules. These may be studied individually so that you can choose to study the modules you wish but you must complete each module within three months of your starting date. Each module requires approximately 30 hours of study.
The full syllabus can be found on the course website.
When you need to discuss any aspects of your study, you may contact your tutor for support. Your tutor is available for direct contact by telephone; a telephone answering service is available after office hours and you may also contact your tutor by email, post or fax. Email is the preferred option for all tutor contact. Tutor support is available for each module for a maximum period of three months from the date you start the module.
You are encouraged to contact other students, even to form local groups where possible, to share ideas.
Throughout each module you monitor your own progress using self-assessment questions (SAQs), which appear throughout the text and for each module you will submit written exercises to your tutor for marking.
You may register for a module in this programme on the following dates: 1st February, 1st May, 1st August and 1st November. You simply complete a registration form and return it, with payment of the appropriate fee, to the Distance Learning Section. As soon as payment has been made, your module will be forwarded to you.
If you do not complete your module within the allowed three month period, you may re-register for a further three month period. You will be sent a reminder letter and re-registration form before your registration expires. All you need to do is complete them and return them with your registration fee, and you can continue your study for another three months.
