The study of palliative care generates skills which are transferable across a wide spectrum of disease and this module aims to give students insight into the holistic care of patients with advanced and progressing illness. The issue of palliative care being more than terminal care is addressed.
To enable nurses to engage holistically in the nursing care of patients with advanced and progressing illness.
This module consists of four units. The module is appropriate for nurses and health visitors working in hospital or the community, in any country. The module discusses the holistic care of patients with advanced and progressing illness. Topics covered are:

The module assessment is practice focused and aims to facilitate the development of professional practice. Students are encouraged to engage with self-assessment activities throughout the learning experience. Formative assessment enables students to develop practice and academic process skills through tutor feed-back.
A text-based study guide is used to support learning for this module. The study guide helps the student make essential links between theory and practice and prepare for the module assessment. A dynamic tutorial support system operates with a tutor link to the module. Students are encouraged to use the tutorial system according to their need.
This module is accredited by the American Nurses Credentialling Centre (ANCC).
First level registered nurses in the UK or overseas equivalent for BN and BNPC. For MPC - students require to have a health-related first degree.
