Overview

One of the best contributions a health care worker can make to the well being of patients and colleagues is putting into practice good infection control principles. Throughout the module the students are asked to reflect upon infection control delivered in their own area of practice. A vast number of diverse infection hazards challenge clinicians. Interrupting the links in the chain of infection is the responsibility of all health care workers and is not just the responsibility of those who have Infection Control in their jobs.

Aims of the Module

To be able to analyse critically the specific components required for an effective Infection Control policy.

Module Content

The module has three principle aims. Firstly it aims to enable you to appreciate issues which are influential in the development of an effective infection control policy. You will then consider the experience of infection control from the perspective of the patient. Finally you will facilitated to identify methods for assessing, managing and controlling infection, using a partnership approach.
