Overview

This module allows the student to examine the issues that affect a patient's health and well-being when diagnosed with cancer students are guided to analyse epidemiological issues relating to cancer, and risk assessment. Using this knowledge the student analyses a specific patient cancer situation from a holistic perspective, how they can deliver individualised nursing care for that patient.

Aims of the Module

To facilitate the practice and professional development of the student in a way that will impact positively on the quality of life of the cancer patient and enhance the quality of nursing care.

Module Content

This module is suitable for all nurses in all countries whether they are practising in a general hospital unit, the community or a specialist cancer unit. Cancer Nursing introduces topics relevant to holistic nursing management of patients suffering from cancer. The module aims to facilitate practice development and have a positive impact on the quality of patient care.

Assessment

The module assessment is practice focused and aims to facilitate the development of professional practice. Students are encouraged to engage with self-assessment activities throughout the learning experience. Formative assessment enables students to develop practice and academic process skills through tutor feed-back.

Student Support

Text-based study guides are used to support learning for each module. The study guide directs learning and helps the student make essential links between theory and practice and prepare for module assessment. A dynamic tutorial support system operates with a tutor link to each module topic by telephone, email and fax. Students are encouraged to use the tutorial system according to their need.

Accreditation

This module is accredited by the American Nurses Credentialling Centre (ANCC).

Entry Requirements

First level registered nurses in the UK or overseas equivalent for BN and BNPC. For MPC - students require to have a health-related first degree.
