Professor Roslender participated in a Doctoral Symposium at the University of Aalborg

In late April Professor Roslender participated in a Doctoral Symposium in the Department of Business and Management at the University of Aalborg, where he is currently a Visiting Professor. The focus of the symposium was academic writing, with presentations by faculty on various aspects of the challenge entailed in getting published as a doctoral student and early career researcher. Several of the students also presented the first drafts of papers, which they will be required to re-present at a further symposium at the end of May.

The Scandinavian model for doctoral studies in the social sciences involves writing a set of papers on a broad theme together with a paper linking them together. Increasingly doctoral candidates are expected to have some these papers published in advance of defending their dissertation, which happens in public and is orchestrated by an "opponent", usually a senior academic in the field.

Professor Roslender is also in the process of establishing a basis for facilitating doctoral student exchanges between the University of Dundee and Aalborg University, two institutions of similar international status.
