Outing to Monikie Country Park

Postgraduate Yang Hou

Staff, PhD students from the School of Accounting & Finance, and their family, friends and pets descended on Monikie Country Park in Angus on Sunday 9 August 2009 for the annual outing and barbeque. In addition to the usual fare, the postgraduates contributed delicious Iraqi lamb kebabs and other Middle Eastern food. After lunch a daring group of 16, including the Dean and Professor Haslam, reported to the obstacle course for helmets and harnesses. Once the brief team building and bonding exercise was finished, the group was split into two teams. The challenge for the first group was for two members to climb to the top of a shaky telegraph pole, stand facing each other and fall backwards to be suspended in mid air and then lowered down slowly by team members. The second group had to climb up a tower, abseil down it, walk across two poles suspended at different heights and to roll over a final pole. The final activity for all involved was a fast trip across the water down a zip wire. Other members of the party tried their hands at canoeing, windsurfing and sailing. Everyone had a great time!
