Jamie Cook's Internship

Jamie Cook  Jamie Cook recently gave a talk to the incoming second year Business Management students in the School of Business on his experience of his Internship last year, during which he created an online presence for the author Geoff Holder. The Internship module that Jamie took was developed and provided specifically for the Business Management degree programme by the University's Careers Services unit following discussion with the programme director, Dr. Anne Fearful.

Prior to the internship, Geoff had nothing on the web to suggest he even existed as a practicing, full time author. As Jamie said "Now you bash his name into google, and you'll find a plethora of information, youtube him to find videos and I've even managed to persuade him to get tweeting on a regular basis."

Jamie noted that over the course of the internship he developed a very obvious branded style for Geoff, something that people could recognise, and something that would give him the writer a real chance of competing in the 21st century. He told the students that he went into the internship with an open mind, stating "....the fact that I had so much leeway and creative possibility gave me the motivation to go above and beyond everything that was required of me, and I really developed not only a great personal relationship with Geoff, but a real personal commitment to the project."

Author Geoff Holder was delighted with the result and said that ''Working with Jamie allowed me to create a significant online presence which continues to enhance the marketing of my one-man-band business, leading to increased book sales, more bookings for talks, and greater media exposure. Jamie brought technical and digital skills to the enterprise, as well as enthusiasm, a raft of ideas, and a willingness to try new things. The internship programme was a great boon to me.''

Geoff has continued to employ Jamie part time as a Web Development and Marketing Manager.
