The School offers the following research degrees. Although our postgraduate degrees are normally studied on a full time basis, permission can be granted for the study of all postgraduate degrees part-time.

The PhD is a three-year full-time course, culminating in the submission of a dissertation, for outstanding students who are committed to the pursuit of scholarship in Accounting and Finance.
The doctoral programme is a well-developed and integral part of departmental activities. It is designed to give you a full, varied and highly demanding experience that will leave you an international expert in your chosen field of study. As a doctoral student, you will undertake research in areas of the School's particular expertise to enable you to reach the frontiers of your topic area most quickly and to maximise the probability that you will be able to publish your results in the leading research journals.
As a full-time research student, you will undertake a course of study designed to meet your own specific needs. This will involve an intensive programme of taught courses including research and quantitative methods in the first six months of your programme.
These taught courses are assessed by a combination of written examination, assessed practical sessions and presentations. Successful completion leads to the award of the Diploma in Accounting or Finance Research. A satisfactory performance is necessary to continue with your doctoral studies. In addition you will be expected to participate in the staff and visitors' seminar programme, present progress reports on your research to fellow doctoral students at a weekly seminar, and attend national and international doctoral colloquia.
Entry to the PhD is via a completed application form. We are looking for a well developed research proposal from students with an excellent first degree (and preferably a Masters degree) in accounting and finance or any other related subject area. Because of the close supervision policy of the School, your application will only be considered if you wish to work in the School's areas of particular expertise and can demonstrate familiarity with the literature and research problems in your chosen field of investigation. It is normally School policy to limit intake so that no member of staff has more than two research students under his/her supervision at any one time.
The School also offers a two year Master of Philosophy (MPhil) [University Main Pages]
