The DipRes is made up of a collection of core courses and options. Usually, the DipRes is required before students can pursue a PhD, however, if a student has been granted an ESRC award to study a PhD under the full 1+3 scheme, they would either do the MSc (formerly the MAcc) or the MRes. It may also be taken as a stand alone degree over a period of 7months, in which case the student may be considered for transfer to the MSc or the MRes if they pass the courses. The student should be aware however, that by transferring, they would be awarded the Masters only and not the Diploma. If they transfer, they cannot be given both awards. Transfer to the Masters degree would involve working on a dissertation for 5 months. In effect, the Masters degree would have taken them 12 months.
