Information and guidance on the University Complaints Procedure (not for staff - this is available from the Human Resources webpage) and on Student Appeals and Discipline matters can be found from the links in the table below. The table also contains a link to statistical information regarding appeals, complaints and discipline cases which have arisen in the University. An Advisory Group on Appeals & Complaints Procedures meets bi-annually to look at current policies for dealing with such appeals, complaints and discipline. There is also a Complaints Working Group which meets bi-annually to discuss issues relating to complaints and disciplinary matters and to provide training for staff involved in these areas. For further information about these Groups, please contact Mrs Fiona O'Donnell, Legal Counsellor.
Complaint or Appeal?
A complaint is a specific concern about the provision of a programme of study or related academic service, including teaching and academic facilities.
An appeal is different, and is a request for a review of the decision of an academic body charged with making decisions on student progression, assessment and awards etc.
