Lord Provost John Letford was born in Aberdeen and came to Dundee in 1943 and later served apprenticeship in Caledon Shipyard as Marine Coppersmith. He served in the Royal Air Force from 1956-58. In 1989 he was a Training Manager with Community Industry Rathbone for 15 years and a Councillor in Tayside Regional Council and Labour Party Chairman for Camperdown.
He serves several committees with interests in sports, theatre, education, local
services and disabled associations. He has been involved with Dundee City
Council since 1994 where he worked his way up to be our current Lord Provost.
