Expectations
We are always happy to support students in their learning, but we have a limited amount of time and have a wide range of activities to support. Hence, we ask you to help us by recognising what we offer you in our teaching and what we ask of you when you seek support.
What we offer in our teaching?
- Our time - we offer timetabled classes and also have consultations that can be arranged by appointment
- Our expertise - our learning experts are qualified and experienced professional teachers and tutors delivering diverse academic skills tuition as well as English Support classes for international students
- Our understanding of the University systems - we know how your learning needs can best be supported to advance your learning
- Our understanding of the academic demands made of you - and how to teach you what you need to know in order to meet these demands
- Our classes that are tailored to your learning needs and help you to develop your full potential
What do we ask of students?
- You attend classes and personal appointments at the scheduled time
- You confirm appointments made on your behalf
- You ensure that you do not make an AATU appointment or commit to an AATU class for times when you are required to be participating in other academic classes or activities
- You arrange other claims on your time so that you make and keep appointments arranged for you by the Academic Achievement Teaching Unit
- You tell us well ahead of time by email or phone call that you are unable to attend a class or a meeting with a learning expert - a valid reason for missing the scheduled meeting or class must be provided
- You should understand that if you fail to attend classes without explanation, your place will be forfeited or, in the case of credit-bearing modules, that you will fail the course (which will appear on your University transcript)
